Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has sent a series of text messages to Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi in hope of persuading him to join the Blues this summer, but his pleas are likely to fall on dear ears. Buy Fifa 15 Coins Service on UTfifa15coins.
That is according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, who believe that the message ‘come to Chelsea’ has been a regular feature in Icardi’s inbox over the last few weeks.
Icardi is a hot property after enjoying a breakthrough season in a pretty poor Inter side, but rather than join Chelsea, Manchester United or anyone else he’s on the verge of signing a bumper new contract extension with the Nerazzurri.
CONTRACT TALKS AT AN ADVANCED STAGE
The 22-year-old’s agent landed in Milan yesterday and is expected to tie up a lucrative extension for his client by Tuesday at the latest, taking his yearly salary from €800,000 to €2 million overnight.
Far more importantly from Inter’s point of view there should be a new €40m release clause included in those terms, which means if Mourinho is serious about signing the Argentine forward this summer he’ll have to splash the cash.
CHELSEA SHOULD LOOK ELSEWHERE
There’s no doubt that Mourinho is on the lookout for a new centre-forward this summer, with Didier Drogba finally ready to call time on an incredible career at highest level.
Chelsea definitely need reliable cover for Diego Costa, but despite possessing immense raw potential Icardi’s just doesn’t look value for money at that price tag.
Mourinho has done an incredible job in the transfer market since returning to Stamford Bridge, with an emphasis on value for money.
Icardi simply doesn’t represent that for the Blues, who need a strong focal point through the middle rather than a South American star with pace and a killer touch.
It’s a case of watch this space for both Chelsea and Icardi, a player Mourinho clearly rates very highly.
